DOD recognizes Operation Homecoming 50th anniversary, remembers those still unaccounted for

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM, Hawaii — A ceremony was held at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, on Mar. 28, 2023, recognizing the 50th anniversary of Operation Homecoming.

Weekley was a navigator assigned to the 329th Bombardment Squadron when the B-24 Liberator aircraft on which he was serving was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire on Aug. 1, 1943. DPAA provides answers to family members in Orlando

Orlando, Fla. — The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) hosted its second Family Member Update (FMU) of the fiscal year 2023, providing families with answers on their missing family members in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 25.

DPAA Scientists attend conference to share knowledge

ORLANDO, Fla. — Members of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Scientific Analysis Directorate descended on the 75th Anniversary Conference of the American Academy of Forensic Science in Orlando Feb. 13-18, to share knowledge and learn more on the latest practices to aide in the Agency’s mission of providing the fullest possible accounting for missing American’s from past conflicts.

U.S. and Republic of Korea military and government officials conduct a repatriation ceremony at the Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed in Action Recovery Identification (MAKRI) Headquarters in Seoul, Feb. 23, 2023. Accepting the remains on behalf of the U.S., was Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Director, Mr. Kelly McKeague. The remains will be transported to the DPAA laboratory for further scientific analysis. There are currently more than 7,500 unaccounted for American service members from the Korean War. SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — The Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed in Action Recovery Identification (MAKRI) conducted a repatriation ceremony to transfer remains to the United Nations Command for analysis in the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) laboratory, February 22, 2023 in South Korea.
