DOD recognizes Operation Homecoming 50th anniversary, remembers those still unaccounted for

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM, Hawaii — A ceremony was held at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, on Mar. 28, 2023, recognizing the 50th anniversary of Operation Homecoming.

Weekley during an identification briefing in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 25, 2023. Weekley was a navigator assigned to the 329th Bombardment Squadron when the B-24 Liberator aircraft on which he was serving was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire on Aug. 1, 1943. The aircraft then crashed north of Bucharest, Romania and his remains were not identified following the war. Orlando, Fla. — The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) hosted its second Family Member Update (FMU) of the fiscal year 2023, providing families with answers on their missing family members in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 25.
