Vietnam War Families Seek Answers

By DPAA PA

From June 24-27, more than 200 family members of U.S. servicemen and civilians missing from the Vietnam War traveled to Washington D.C. from around the country for the 46th Annual Meeting of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia. At the meeting, representatives from the U.S. government's personnel accounting community briefed the attending family members on the efforts being made to account for their loved ones. The families were provided briefings on government policy, remains recovery operations, and methods of identifying remains. Individual family members also were provided the opportunity to discuss the case of their respective missing loved one with the government expert assigned to the case. Notably, Mr. Michael Linnington, who had just been appointed days earlier as the first Director of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, addressed the League and the attending family members, and briefed them on his priorities and vision for the new agency. Also, Ambassador Scot Marciel, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, addressed the League to update them on US Government policy efforts in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
