WASHINGTON –
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that U.S. Army Pfc. Richard A. Meech, 33, killed during World War II, was accounted for Dec. 31, 2025.
In November 1944, Meech was assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. His unit was part of the Hürtgen Forest offensive when he was reported killed in action on Nov. 6 after being hit by mortar fire while delivering supplies to the front line. Because of the fighting, his body was unable to be recovered.
This is an initial release. The complete accounting of Meech’s case will be published once his family receives a full briefing.
