WASHINGTON –
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced today that U.S. Army Pfc. John A. Walko, 20, killed during World War II, was accounted for July 16, 2025.
In 1944, Walko was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was reportedly killed in action on Oct. 20 after his company encountered German enemy fire in Aachen, Germany. His remains were not accounted for after the war.
This is an initial release. The complete accounting of Walko's case will be published once the family receives their full briefing.
