Father, Commander laid to rest after 79 years WWII death
Barbara Canavan, daughter of U.S. Navy Commander Frederick Schrader, is given a U.S. flag during an interment ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, April 13, 2023. Schrader, 31, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, killed during World War II, was accounted for on Sept. 27, 2022 by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. In October 1944, Schrader was the commander of Carrier Air Group Eleven on the USS Hornet. The Hornet was one of 17 aircraft carriers to take part in the Battle of Formosa Oct. 12-15.
