Last MIAs for Lithuanian Identified
On Sept 16. 2021 Lithuanian officials conducted a honorable carry of remains ceremony. Several sets of WWII-era remains exhumed in Lithuania were prepared to be escorted back home to their final resting place in the United States. The airmen served on different B-17 bomber crews who were shot down in early 1944 and perished in a German POW camp in Lithuania. Ambassador Gilchrist was honored to attend the ceremony, alongside Vice Minister of National Defense Margiris Abukevičius, Archbishop Gintaras Grušas, members of the U.S. and Lithuanian Armed Forces, representatives from the U.S. Embassy, and others who honored the airmen's service and sacrifice.
