Dr. Carl Stephan, former JPAC anthropologists, examines chest x-rays as part of a study recently published in the Journal for Forensic Sciences. Stephan, Dr. Pierre Guyomarc'h and Dr. John Byrd, as well Pacific Northwest National Laboratory engineers Brett Amidan, Trenton Pulsipher and Harold Trease, collaborated on the multi-year study which developed computer search algorithms to scan a database of missing persons' radiographs and rank order each missing person according to how closely they match remains in the laboratory. The study, Morphometric Comparison of Clavicle Outlines from 3D Bone Scan and 2D Chest Radiographs: A Shortlisting Tool to Assist Radiographic Identification of Human Skeletons, was published in the March edition of the journal.
