DPAA Conducts Recovery Operations in India

Thirteen members from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, along with a team from Rimo Expeditions, conducted search and recovery efforts on the Himalayan Mountains in the Arunachal Pradesh region,

DPAA Director Michael Linnington meets with Vietnam Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ha Kim Ngoc during his visit to Southeast Asia. Linnington visited DPAA detachments in Bangkok, Thailand; Vientiane, Laos; and Hanoi, Vietnam, and met with senior U.S. officials in each country, as well as senior host nation counterparts. He also met with U.S. Embassy staff and Cambodian counterparts in Phnom Penh.

DPAA Director Visits Southeast Asia

Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Director Michael Linnington completed his first oversight visit to Southeast Asia last week to assess the U.S. Government’s efforts to achieve the fullest possible

U.S. service members from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) participate in a disinterment ceremony, Nov. 9, 2015, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu. DPAA holds these ceremonies to give honor and respect to our nation's unidentified dead before they are moved to the DPAA Lab for identification. The remains being disinterred are unknowns from the USS Oklahoma, lost from the attack on Pearl Harbor during WWII. These are the last of the USS Oklahoma to be disinterred. USS Oklahoma Disinterments Complete

Nov. 9, 2015 — The last of the unknowns from the USS Oklahoma are disinterred and ready for identification.

The 15-member team comprised of members of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency as well service members from United States Army Pacific and Pacific Air Force was sent from Hawaii to honor the remains of a fallen service member who paid the ultimate sacrifice when his plane went down over Malaysia in 1945. The ceremony signifies the transfer of the remains from Malaysia back to the U.S. where the service member can be returned home. The ceremony marks the first of its kind between the two countries.
