DPAA attends the ACLPM Workshop

DPAA’s participation in the ACLPM Workshop is just one part of a larger effort to engage with the Department of Defense language community and ensure that the agency’s vital work can continue. By highlighting the critical role of language specialists and offering service members opportunities to join their mission, DPAA is taking important steps toward closing the linguistic gap in operations in Asia.

Agency accounts for 700th missing Korean War hero

With the Sept. 9, 2024, accounting of Army Corporal Billie Charles Driver, 18, from Dallas, Texas, DPAA marked the identification of the 700th missing personnel from the Korean War. Corporal Driver, a member of the 1st Calvary Division, perished in the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter, Sept. 5, 1950.

“This is an incredible milestone,” said Kelly McKeague, DPAA director, “It is reflective of the talent and dedication of the Department of Defense personnel who are dutifully serve this sacred mission.”

Vietnam Repatriation Ceremony

The ceremony marked the end of the joint field activity and this iteration’s efforts to recover unaccounted-for personnel from the Vietnam War. During the ceremony, team members and Socialist Republic of Vietnam officials transferred possible osseous material to DPAA for potential identification at the DPAA laboratory.

There are approximately 1,576 personnel missing from the Vietnam War.

Two Teams as One

DPAA hosts tours to provide distinguished visitors with an opportunity to meet with DPAA staff personnel, U.S. service members, senior leaders and subject-matter experts to gain a better understanding of DPAA’s history and mission procedures.

McKeague spoke on his agency's mission and the importance of support from such groups as the American Legion in accounting for missing personnel from past conflicts.

Members of the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and their guests were all invited to the American Legion’s 105th National Convention to help strengthen and support the veteran's association.
