In 2015, the lab received all of the unknown remains from the USS Oklahoma that were disinterred from the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, commonly called “the Punchbowl,” in Honolulu, Hawaii. An initial analysis of the remains estimates that 388 individuals are represented in the group. With the identification of U. S. Navy Fireman 1st Class Billy James Johnson in February, the lab has successfully identified 200 individuals from the USS Oklahoma’s unknown remains.
